Blake Shinn flies by the seat of his pants

Blake Shinn made headlines the last time he rode Miss Royale in a race but at Warwick Farm on Wednesday the pair were all the talk for the right reasons.

Miss Royale is the horse Shinn lost his pants on when the elastic in his jodhpurs broke during the running of a race at Canterbury in April.

The jockey’s backside was bared for all to see and the vision went viral.

Shinn took no chances of a repeat performance at Warwick Farm.

“We kept well buckled up today,” he said.

Instead, it was Miss Royale who pulled her rivals pants down with an emphatic come-from-behind win in the Cafe Culture Insitu Handicap.

Starting favourite on the strength of a recent barrier trial win, the Chris Waller-trained four-year-old gave her supporters little cause for concern despite settling further back than expected.

“She was awesome up the running,” Shinn said.

“I was spotting them seven or eight lengths at the top of the straight but I had a lapful of horse.”

Stable representative Peter Muscat said he had little doubt Miss Royale would measure up to Saturday grade at a minimum.

“I suspect she’s a smart filly in the making.”

The win gave Shinn a double after he took out the first race on Mooshakissa for Peter and Paul Snowden. – AAP TURF
