Magic Millions candidate Exo Velocity made the perfect first impression to lead home a Chris Waller-trained quinella in the opener at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

A rails-hugging ride from jockey Kerrin McEvoy helped the daughter of Zoustar take the shortest route home to prevail in the Arrowfield Kirkham 2YO Plate (1000m).

Stablemate Tour De Force ($7) only saw daylight at the 250m mark and flashed home for second but ran out of time to round-up Exo Velocity ($13) while Jenni In Rome ($6) was close up in third.

“The stable at Warwick Farm have really rapt up this filly (Exo Velocity) right from get-go and Chloe (Lindsay) and the team have done a tremendous job with her to get her here,” Waller’s stable representative Darren Beadman said.

“She has a bit of sass about her but it was a lovely ride by Kerrin, he is great on these two-year-olds and is nice and kind to them.

“She is a Magic Millions yearling and she really savaged the line good.

“I thought the colt (Tour De Force), if he gets out at the right time, he certainly runs a bit close if not winning.

“You couldn’t have asked for a better debut from both runners.”

Connections forked out $650,000 for Exo Velocity at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale with the filly in the mix to head back to Queensland early in the New Year to contest the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m).

It took more than double that to snare blueblood colt Tour De Force which Newgate and China Horse Club paid $1.35 million to secure at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

The colt is out of 2020 Moir Stakes victor Pippie.

The Kirkham Plate is run a fortnight before the $1 million Listed Golden Gift.
