Chris Waller’s Who Shot Thebarman has taken a similar path to Saturday’s Zipping Classic at Sandown as he did last year, when he won the Group 2 race.
The gelding had no luck in last year’s Melbourne Cup but went on to land the 2400m Classic next start — and has not won since.
After finishing fifth in last week’s Cup, Who Shot Thebarman will again carry 59kg at Sandown.
“Who Shot Thebarman won it last year after coming off a similar run in the Cup, so it all depends on the opposition,” Waller said of the eight-year-old’s chances.
“He has pulled up well since the Cup.
“I think the tracks have been fantastic at Flemington during Cup Week and horses have been pulling up well.
“Earlier in the carnival they pulled up knowing they’d had a run, but this week they have been pretty good and seem to have come through it really well.”
Waller plans to run Murphy’s Delight in the 3200m Sandown Cup.
The gelding finished sixth, beaten less than two lengths, in the 2800m Prince Of Penzance Plate on Cup Day.
Murphy’s Delight, an Irish import, won the 3200m Queensland Cup at Eagle Farm in July.
