Tough mare Invincibella sailed past $3 million in prize money and wrote her name into Magic Millions history at the Gold Coast.
Invincibella ($6) made it three wins in a row the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies and Mares (1300m) when she beat Irithea ($4.60) by three-quarters of a length.
Her stablemate Romani Girl ($26) was the same margin away in third place.
No horse has won the same Magic Millions race three years in a row before Invincibella on Saturday.
However, it did not surprise trainer Chris Waller who hinted the mare might even try for a four-peat next year.
“She does what she does and she does it well. We like to give our horses a chance to defend their crowns if they are capable,” Waller said.
“She has these three wins but more importantly she has a Group One beside her name.
“Invincibella really has been great for our stable.”
The mare carried 60kg but it was only 1kg more than she carried last year and she has won the Group One Tatt’s Tiara in between.
Invincibella was a $180,000 buy as a yearling for Denise Martin’s Star Throughbreds.
Jockey Hugh Bowman settled the mare near the tail of the field but worked into the race from the 600m.
“She is a wonderful mare and she was travelling so well when I asked for an effort. I knew Irithea would lead and we would be strong late,” Bowman said.
“It is a credit to the stable that she can come up here each year.” – AAP
