Chris Waller’s Winx nominated for Longines World’s Best Racehorse Awards

As if there were any doubt about Winx’s place on the world stage, there shouldn’t be now after trainer Chris Waller and the two-time Cox Plate-winning heroine’s connections were invited to the Longines World’s Best Racehorse awards set to be held in London later this month.

It is a huge recognition for the wonder mare’s feats Down Under that Winx, who is nearing a comeback before an autumn campaign tailored around the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes, will have her representatives rubbing shoulders with the best in international racing.

Waller received confirmation this week Winx had been nominated for the awards, which will be held in the Old Dart just a couple of days before Australia Day.

“It’s a huge privilege to be honoured and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the awards,” Waller said.

Winx’s jockey Hugh Bowman could also take time out from his busy schedule to attend despite the autumn carnival being just around the corner, where the Australian Horse of the Year will be his focus.

Waller and the owners of star two-year-old filly From Within might have an interesting call to make in regards to Bowman, who was one of two riders to have sat on the Magic Millions contender in trials before she toyed with her rivals on debut at Canterbury on Saturday.

Glyn Schofield was the other and you can be bet he will be angling hard to keep the ride on the filly in the $2 million race. – Adam Pengilly, Sydney Morning Herald.
