The highest priced Southern Hemisphere bred  yearling by Cambridge Stud shuttler Hello Youmzain (Fr) is working through his grades in the Chris Waller stable and was an eye-catching winner at Canterbury on Monday.

A $425,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase for Chris Waller / Mulcaster Bloodstock from the Cambridge Stud draft, Hello Captain has been given plenty of time and the three yea-rold gelding was second on debut at Doomben last December before winning his maiden at the Sunshine Coast.

Spelled and sent back to the Rosehill stable, Hello Captain won first up from a spell at Warwick Farm last month and had a task today with top weight of 62kg for the Benchmark 64 event over 1250m.

He motored to the line for Nash Rawiller to win eased down by two lengths and has now won three of four starts earning nearly $90,000 for New Zealand owner Glenn Ritchie, whose colours were in the winner’s circle in the first race won by Miss Scandal.

“It was a lovely ride by Nash, he trusted the horse and gave him a nice cushy first half of the race and that showed late when he was able to let down, especially with the big weight,” said stable representative Darren Beadman.

“Great for the Ritchie family. They’ve invested a lot of money in the game and it’s good to see them with a double here today.”

Nash Rawiller believes the surface of Hello Captain has barely been scratched.

“It’s a tired and true way of Chris’s to gradually let them creep up to better company and that’s what he has done with this bloke,” Rawiller said.

“He’s got plenty of scope and this time next year he might be a force to be reckoned with I think.”

Bred by Cambridge Stud, Hello Captain is a three-quarter brother to English stakes-winner Never Back Down and full brother to this season’s Group placed juvenile Persian Wonder being the fourth winner from five foals to race from Steer the Stars (IRE).

A winning half-sister by Pivotal to stakes-winners Consort and Her World, Steer the Stars had a yearling filly by Farnan sell for $160,000 at Karaka Book 1 this year to Shijiazhuang Hongtao Horse Breeding.

A Group I winning sprinter by Kodiac, Hello Youmzain stands at Cambridge Stud this spring at a fee of $20,000.
