Chris Waller trio JAPONISME, DELECTATION and COUNTERATTACK added some star power to last Friday morning’s Randwick trials and all came through in flying colours ahead of their big Group 1 test at Doomben in the BTC Cup set down for this weekend.
Speaking of colours, it was the cerise clad Japonisme that who won Heat 4 over the 1050m beating his aforementioned stablemate Counterattack by 1.3-lens.
Japonisme’s effort was undoubtedly a strong one but take nothing away from the runner-up, a case could be made that he went just a fraction better than his Coolmore Stud Stakes winning companion but not by much – both were outstanding on the day.
So too Delectation who won Heat 7 over the same trip by a margin of 1.5-lens.
Times are not the be all and end all but it is worth bearing in mind that Japonisme ran a very slick 1:02.3s against Delectation’s 1:05.20.
Closest to Delectation at the end was TARGET IN SIGHT, who predictably was last of the six in running but finished off powerfully over the final 200m. – The Daily Telegraph
