Back to back Magic Millions scalps for Chris Waller pair

Chris Waller-trained pair Tumultuous and Invincibella claimed consecutive editions of their respective Magic Millions category races at the Gold Coast meeting on Saturday.

Tumultuous’ second win in the Magic Millions Trophy (2200m) on Saturday saw the five-year-old’s career earnings balloon to $1.4 million, about an hour before Invincibella claimed a second straight Magic Millions Fillies & Mares (1300m) to take her total earnings past $2 million.

Ridden a treat from the inside barrier by Robbie Fradd, Tumultuous ($4.20 fav) surged along the rails to score by a neck while Invincibella ($4.40) and Hugh Bowman made their class tell in a long-neck victory.

Waller said having a satellite stable at the Gold Coast had helped Tumultuous and Invincibella become principal beneficiaries of the Magic Millions scheme.

“What more do you say? This is a big payday for our owners,” Waller said.

“It’s a great day’s racing with big prizemoney and great for the racing participants.”

“Tumultuous had done all his prep races up here. It’s handy to have a base up here – it keeps the horses at home so to speak. He’d been set for the race since last year and hadn’t been able to win one in between.

“And Invincibella has gone to another level since coming here and winning last year. It seems to have given her confiedence and now she’s a genuine Group horse.”

Waller indicated that Tumultuous and Invincibella could find themselves back at the Gold Coast in 12 months’ time.

“It would be less stress than the other job,” Waller said, referencing the pressure that comes with preparing Australia’s pin-up horse Winx.

The wonder mare is scheduled to have her first trial back from a summer break at Rosehill on Tuesday. – Racenet.com.au
