Chris Waller stands as Australia’s foremost Group 1-winning horse trainer, celebrated for guiding the legendary mare Winx to victory.
From humble beginnings in Foxton, New Zealand, to becoming Australia’s leading trainer, Chris Waller has built a reputation founded on patience, precision, and genuine care for the horse.
After moving to Sydney in 2000 with just a handful of horses, Waller claimed his first Group 1 with Triple Honour in 2008. After winning his first Sydney trainer’s premiership in 2010/11, he has dominated the Sydney trainers’ premiership and guided some of the most celebrated horses in modern racing.
At the heart of his legacy is Winx, 37 wins, including 25 Group 1s and four Cox Plates, a once-in-a-lifetime mare whose brilliance reflected Waller’s mastery of timing and preparation. Alongside her stand champions like Verry Elleegant, winner of the 2021 Melbourne Cup and 11 Group 1s, The Autumn Sun, Nature Strip & Via Sistina to name a few.
