Tom Melbourne is set to be given a chance at cracking his Group I duck at his 12th attempt – with a Stradbroke Handicap mission given the green light.
The enigmatic galloper, which ran second for the third consecutive race in the Group III Lord Mayor’s Cup (1600m) at Eagle Farm last Saturday, will carry 53.5kg in the Stradbroke and is set to be ridden by Corey Brown.
The Chris Waller-trained galloper started favourite in the Lord Mayor’s Cup and led for home but finished second for the 14th time in his 44-start career.
OTI Racing has confirmed a Stradbroke tilt is on the cards for the eight-year-old.
On Wednesday, Tom Melbourne is a $26 chance with TAB.com.au for the Group I Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 8.
He is 30th in the order of entry but is almost certain to get a start with Stradbroke contenders set to be whittled down after first acceptances are declared on Wednesday afternoon.
Tom Melbourne’s most recent crack at a Group I race was when he finished 14th behind Best Of Days in the Kennedy Mile at Flemington last November.
