The famous Winx colours were worn to another feature race win as Sexy Eyes took out a thriller in the Group 3 $160,000 Belle of the Turf Stakes (1600m) at Gosford.

Jay Ford wore the Winx colours of dark blue, white “M” and epaulettes of part-owner Peter Tighe who is also in the syndicate that races the Chris Waller-trained Sexy Eyes ($4.60) who edged out Irithea ($6) in the last stride.

There was less than a length separating the first four over the line with Zumbelina ($3.10 favourite) and Organza ($5) also in the finish.

“She deserved that stakes win, she has been a very honest horse,” Ford said of Sexy Eyes.

“We drew a good gate, we held our spot and she always travelled well.

“I put her into the race before the bend as I felt it was going to turn into a bit of sprint home.

“Initially the second horse (Irithea) got away for me but, slowly but surely, she kept grinding away and got her head in front when it counted.” – Ray Thomas, The Daily Telegraph
